Award-winning Information-Star editor Kathy Spurlock dies

MONROE, La. (AP) — Kathy Spurlock, an award-winning journalist who served as editor of a number of newspapers in Louisiana and Mississippi, died Friday after a protracted sickness.

She died at her residence in Monroe, Louisiana, The Information-Star reported. She was 67.

Spurlock served two stints on the newspaper, together with 21 years as its high editor when she retired in 2016.

She was a mentor to Barbara Chief, who’s now the highest Louisiana editor for Gannett, the corporate that owns The Information-Star.
